MAKE SURE EMPLOYEES...
Completely understand what will be monitored and what
will not.
FOR EXAMPLE: Employee Monitoring software is not
a keyboard logger and local activity that does not require
network or Internet will not be monitored.
Know that you may consider monitoring them only when
you suspect a problem.
- Employees Should Know Better -
By communicating your policies effectively, employees
can't claim ignorance. Employees are usually hired for
specific reason; to perform specific duties and create
a value to the company. As with the copy machine and the
fax machine most employees understand from the beginning
that they are for company use only, why not the computer?
- Understanding Policy Violations -
Employees should expect that their privacy is not guaranteed
especially if they know they are being monitored.
- Understanding Policy Violations
- Employees are Lazy
- Unpopular
- Don't Understand Them
- Won't Be Enforced
- Employees Desire to Violate Policies Outweigh their
Perception of the Risks Involved
- POLICY DOS AND DON'TS - Be specific as possible!
- Be specific as possible
- If you say what you are going to do, do it!
- Enforce policy for everyone
- Underline/bold this rule: "This is how we do
it here."
- Company reserves the right to monitor
- When monitoring will be performed
- What will be monitored
(Email, IM, Internet, network activity, etc.)
- Types of information that will be collected
- How information will be simulated
- Consequences if policy violation occurs
- Provisions that allow for updates to the policy
